The SU track team braved poor conditions to post numerous personal bests at a meet in Shorline Saturday afternoon.

Seattle University runners were able to post numerous personal best times and earned a few victories despite the poor conditions at the Club Northwest Spring Break Open on Saturday.

In the men’s 3000 meter, Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) led the way for SU en route to a second place finish with a time of 8:54.52. Finishing behind him were teammates Hans Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) with a 9:00.80, Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) with a 9:00.82, Adam Kollgaard (Kent, Wash.) in 9:09.02, Michael Van Nuland (New Castle, Wash.) in 9:19.85, and Alec Adams (Woodway, Wash.) in 9:30.98. The 4x100 relay team of Jude Martinez (Hagatna,Guam), Ty Jaros (Eugene, Ore.), Jabari Fraser (Bethesda, Md.), and Udoka Odoemene (Des Moines, Wash.) won the event with a time of 46.41.

In the 1500, Rustin Winger (Tracyton, Wash.) and Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) finished third and fourth with times of 4:12.59 and 4:15.78 respectively, while Hector Estrada (The Colony, Texas) crossed the stripe in a time 4:21.33. In the 110 hurdles it was Martinez claiming a fifth place finish in a time of 17.06, while Devlin Sweeney (Olympia, Wash.) and Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) finished in times of 17.22 and 17.70. Fraser took home a seventh place finish in the 400m with a time of 54.19. In the 800, Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) earned a third place finish (2:01.23), just ahead of Graham Miller (Spokane, Wash.) in fourth (2:01.97). Poshusta posted the seventh place time of 1:02.70 in the 400 hurdles, while Martinez placed eighth in the 200 with a time 24.13.

The 4x400 relay team of Poshusta, Miller, C. Auld, and D. Auld finished second in a time of 3:42.32. Sweeney won the men’s high jump with a best jump of 1.65m just ahead of Martinez with a 1.55m jump. The long just was decided by .03 meters as Odoemene (5.89m) beat Jaros who jumped 5.86m, while Sweeney finished fourth with a jump of 5.35m.

On the women’s side, Jen Hamann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:58.65, while Allison Prather (Carpinteria, Calif.) placed fourth in a time of 5:03.55. Toni Tetzlaff (Mendota Heights, Minn.) finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.54, while Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.) won the 100m in a time of 13.15, just ahead of Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) with a 13.54.

In the 800m, it was Celeste Cassidy (Bellingham, Wash.) taking first place, crossing the stripe with a time of 2:28.03, while Nicole Waters (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished fourth with a 2:32.92. Another victory came in the 200m as Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) posted a 27.06 with Lout finishing third in 27.64. Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) led the way for SU in the 3000m with a fourth place finish of 10:56.51. Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished fifth with a 10:57.51, Rachel Yorkston (Bellingham, Wash.) was sixth with a 11:01.50, Jennifer Innes (San Bruno, Calif.) was eighth with a 11:27.64, and Tiffany Hunter (Longview, Wash.) was 11th with a 12:04.64.

The 4x400 team of  Purcell, Wolf, Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii), and Clare Obradovich (Tigard, Ore.) took home another first place finish with a time of 4:12.03. Mara Becker (Fairbanks, Alaska) won the high jump with a jump of 1.45m, while Tetzlaff finished second with a 1.35m jump. Cabebe took second in the pole vault with a vault of 2.90m and Ariel Johnson (Moscow, Idaho) finished fifth with a vault of 2.75m. The first four places in the long jump belonged to Becca Urbany (Damascus, Ore.) with a 4.41m, Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) with a 4.35m, Tetzlaff with 4.33m, and Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) with 3.97m. Urbany took second in the triple jump with a jump of 10.30, while Squires was fourth with a jump of 9.11m. Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.) took third in the discus with a toss of 36.73, while RaeLani Valaile (Seattle, Wash.) finished seventh with a toss of 27.16m. Currier and Monahan finished fourth and fifth in the javlin, while Valaile took seventh in the shot put.

The Seattle University track team will return to action April fourth and fifth at the Willamette Invite in Salem, Oregon. The starting times will be announced at later time.
