After going 1-2-3 the previous night in the 200 individual medley, the Seattle University men earned the top two positions in the finals of the 400 individual medley, as Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) finished first in 3:58.97, followed by James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) in second place with a time of 3:59.70. Andrew Miron (Billings, Mont.) finished in 14th place with a time of 4:13.43.
Seattle University earned five of the top seven positions in the 100 butterfly, led by winner Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), who posted a season-best time of 49.32 seconds. Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished in second place by 1/100th of a second with a time of 49.80 seconds, followed by Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) in fourth place in 50.60 seconds, Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.) in fifth place in 51.11 seconds, and Owen Bley-Male (Portland, Ore.) in seventh place in 51.43 seconds. Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.) finished in 21st place with a time of 55.93 seconds, Ben Guthrie (Berkeley, Calif.) finished in 29th place in 54.05 seconds in the "D" final, and Chase Winterroth (Lake Stevens, Wash.) earned 30th place overall with a finals time of 54.06 seconds.
Longbotham finished in second place in the 200 freestyle with a school-record time of 1:40.25, while Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.) finished in 12th place overall in 1:44.40, Nugent earned a 15th place finish with a time of 1:45.34, and Kalani Kaula (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished in 19th place with a time of 1:44.85 in the "C" final. In the 100 breaststroke, James White (El Cajon, Calif.) finished in second place with a time of 58.15 seconds, followed by Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia) in fifth place in 58.87 seconds and Nick Hryciuk (Snohomish, Wash.) in eighth place in 59.89 seconds.
Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.) earned another conference title, this time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.41 seconds. Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.) finished in third place with a time of 51.87 seconds, and Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.) earned a fifth place finish in 53.20 seconds. Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho) finished in 12th place overall with a time of 54.07 seconds.
The quartet of Chiu, White, Longbotham, and Anderson won the PCSC title in the 400 medley relay with a season-best time of 3:22.11, only 41/100ths of a second ahead of the relay squad from UC San Diego. SeattleU remained in second place in the overall team standings after three days with 979.5 points.
Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) picked up the first conference title for the women this year, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.10, just 5/100ths of a second off her school record. Kevlyn Richards (Gig Harbor, Wash.) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:05.05, and Karla Ruff (Seattle, Wash.) finished in 16th place with a time of 1:08.68. Ruff was also SeattleU's top finisher in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 13th place in 4:43.11
The second conference title for the women came in the 400 medley relay, as Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.), Morehouse, Briley Boggs (Federal Way, Wash.), and Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) smashed the old school record by over seven seconds in finishing first with a time of 3:50.27. Earlier in the night, Boggs finished in second place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.30 seconds, followed by Megan Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev.) in 10th place in 58.44 seconds, Shelby Remillard (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in 15th place with a time of 59.27 seconds, and Megan Robinson (Salt Lake City, Utah in 20th place in 59,83 seconds.
The Seattle University women also broke the school record in the 200 freestyle, as Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) cut four seconds off the standard Hanohano set just three weeks ago, finishing second in the event in 1:50.50. Hanohano finished third with a time of 1:50.68, Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) earned a 10th place finish with a time of 1:55.98, Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) finished in 14th place in 1:57.95, and Connie Rae Shobaken (Tualatin, Ore.) finished in 22nd place with a time of 1:58.78.
In the women's 100 backstroke, Leighter finished in third place with a season-best time of 57.96 seconds, with Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) close behind in fifth place in 59.38 seconds. Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.) finished in 13th place in the event with a time of 1:00.67 seconds, while Kaci Dudley (Murrieta, Calif.) and Sarena Hobson (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished in 27th and 28th places overall with times of 1:03.15 and 1:03.58, respectively. With one day remaining, the SeattleU women find themselves in fourth place with 655.5 points, just one point behind third-place crew Pepperdine.
Saturday, Feb. 13, marks the conclusion of the 2010 PCSC Championships, with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay being contested.
