BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Freshman Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.) won both the shot put and the discus throw as the Seattle University track and field team prepared for next week's conference championships by competing in the Western Washington Twilight Meet Friday evening at Civic Stadium.
Currier won the shot put with a top throw of 35' 9.25" and also took top honors in the discus throw with a best effort of 129' 7". Teammate Kahlia Keita (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished in fifth place in both the shot put (30' 5.75") and the discus throw (87' 9").
Seattle University also took first place in the men's 4x100 meter relay, as the quartet of Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash.), Travis Glover (SeaTac, Wash.), Tomi Keah (Austin, Texas), and Daniel Sullivan (Tukwila, Wash.) combined to win the relay in a time of 45.45 seconds. Glover also earned a provisional GNAC qualifying time in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.14 seconds, good enough for third place. Allen finished in sixth place in the same race in a time of 23.66 seconds, while Sullivan finished in fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.89 seconds.
Also in the men's 400 meter hurdles, Garrett Brown (Edmonds, Wash.) earned a fifth place finish with a time of 57.38 seconds, while Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) finished 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.13) and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (18.50 seconds). Nicholas Alvarado (San Francisco, Calif.) notched Seattle University's best time in the men's 5000 meter run this season, crossing the finish line in ninth place in 15:40.11, and Matt Crumedy (San Francisco, Calif.) earned a second place finish in the men's javelin throw with a top effort of 138' 6".
Mara Becker (Fairbanks, Alaska) notched a personal best in the high jump, clearing 4' 11.75" to finish in a tie for third place. Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in third place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:19.9, while Rachel Yorkston (Bellingham, Wash.) and Jaime Clark (St. Louis, Mo.) crossed the finish line seventh and eighth in the 5000 meter run with times of 20:04.89 and 20:38.53, respectively.
Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii) finished in fifth place in both the 400 meter hurdles (1:13.79) and the long jump (13' 7.75"), and Natalie Martinez (San Francisco, Calif.) earned a 12th place finish in the 3000 meter run (11:40.50). In other men's events, Peter Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished in fifth place in the javelin throw (102' 11") and in sixth place in the discus throw (100'), Nicholas Dols (Portland, Ore.) earned a tenth place finish in the 1500 meter run (4:13.39), and Chris Henry (West Seattle, Wash.) posted a 15th place finish in the 800 meter run (2:09.94).
Seattle University returns here to Civic Stadium next weekend for the GNAC Championships, hosted by Western Washington University. The meet will start next Friday, May 4, at 4 p.m. and continue Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. The Redhawks will look to improve on ninth-place finishes for both the men and the women in last year's conference meet.
