SEATTLE - Seattle U track and field concluded the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships at Husky Track in Seattle on Saturday, wrapping up the first ever WAC track and field championship ever hosted by the program. Seattle U added three more All-WAC Second Team honors, and a school record on the final day. Overall, the Redhawks earned six All-WAC Second Team awards, set four school records, eight top-ten marks and 24 personal records (PR) over the three day event.
"This was a great success all the way around," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "We had fantastic support from our administration with the amount of volunteers and support from our fellow SU student athletes. It was a really fun experience and turned out as a good as we could have ever hoped for. The WAC has become a great track and field conference and our staff was proud of how our athletes competed.
Ellie Postma got the awards started in the 1500m. The Camas, Wash., native set a new PR in the 1500m finals with a time of 4:35.99, earning seventh place overall and Second Team All-WAC honors. Four Redhawks qualified for the 1500m finals on Saturday with all of them setting new PRs in the event.
Ansel Pendley-Griffin finished seventh overall in the 800m, earning Second Team All-WAC. The Norman, Oklahoma, set the school record Friday, beating his previous mark by .9.
Maya McCabe also was named to the Second Team All-WAC in the 800m, placing fourth overall with a time of 2:08.82. The Ben Lomond, California, native was a 800m Second Team All-WAC for the second consecutive outdoor season.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Taylor Marks, Ellie Postma, Tricht Jocelyn and Maya McCabe set the new school record with a time of 3:53.43, finishing in eighth and placing in the meet. The men's 4x400m relay team of Isaiah Payne, Alex Franklin, Justin Blunden and Alex Jensen set seventh all-time mark with a time of 3:22.47, placing in the meet with an eighth overall finish.
Both Seattle U teams finished in tenth place with the women's team improving their score by eight points and the men's team by four when compared to the indoor championships.
Gus Harquail, Lucas Milne and Nicole Whittern all earned Second Team All-WAC honors on the first two days. Harquail placed in sixth place with a time of 8:59.44 in the 3000m steeplechase, setting a school record in the process. Milne finished seventh in the decathlon with a score of 5974, breaking the previous school record he set last year. Whittern earned a third consecutive All-WAC award in the javelin throw, placing seventh overall with a mark of 40.62m (133' 3").
Seattle U honored 19 seniors after the meet, seven on the men's and 12 on the women's.

"To be able to send our seniors out like that was great," said Sullivan. "Chad, Tony, Jordana and I were happy to provide them with the experience of hosting a college track meet and extremely thankful for everyone who bought in and helped out. This was a fantastic way to end our season."
