SEATTLE – Seattle U track and field will divide their competitors into two groups this weekend, sending separate squads out to the Idaho Team Challenge and the Portland Indoor Meet No. 2 on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
"We are splitting the teams up this weekend to give them the best opportunities possible," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "The meet at University of Idaho has some great inter-regional teams competing, while the meet at Portland offers some of the distance folks another unique opportunity."
The Idaho Team Challenge will be held on Friday, Feb. 7 at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center in Moscow, Idaho, and will feature the bulk of the split Redhawk squad competing against athletes from Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Idaho, Montana and Washington State. All of the competing programs are among the top 35 in their respective regional rankings, with both of Washington State's teams cracking the Top 10 in the West Region.
The Portland Indoor Meet No. 2, a follow-up from the No. 1 Meet on Jan. 26, will take place in the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore., on Feb. 9 at 12:00 p.m. PT. There, Seattle U's men will race against individuals from the College of Idaho, Concordia (Ore.), La Verne, Lewis & Clark, Pacific (Ore.), Portland, Portland State, Saint Martin's, Santa Clara, Seattle Pacific, Western Oregon and Western Washington, while the women will face athletes from the College of Idaho, Concordia (Ore.), George Fox, La Verne, Lewis & Clark, Oregon State, Oregon Tech, Pacific (Ore.), Portland, Portland State, Saint Martin's, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle Pacific, Western Oregon and Western Washington. The men's teams from Portland and Portland State are both ranked in the West Region, as are the women's teams at Oregon State, Portland State, Portland and San Francisco.
Currently, Seattle U's men are ranked at no. 22 in the West Region, while the women stand at no. 34.
