Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) won the men's 200 meter dash, Cali Cull (Marysville, Wash.) set a new school record in the women's triple jump, and Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) nearly set a school record in the women's 3000 meter run, highlighting Seattle University's participation in the Oregon preview Sunday afternoon at historic Hayward Field.
Stanfield finished first in his heat of the men's 200 meter dash, posting the best overall time in the event at 21.89 seconds. Austin Thummel-Gravitt (Puyallup, Wash.) finished seventh in his heat and 14th overall in the event with a time of 23.07 seconds. Earlier in the meet, Thummel-Gravitt and Stanfield ran the final two legs in the 4x100 meter relay, joining with Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.) and Samuel Engle (Portland, Ore.) to finish fourth in the relay with a time of 42.60 seconds. Schlachter finished third in his heat and ninth overall in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 50.62 seconds.
Cull finished sixth overall in the women's triple jump. On her first attempt, she posted a mark of 10.98 meters, just 1/100th of a meter off the school record. After fouling on her second attempt, she set the record on her third trip down the runway, flying into the pit to post a mark of 11.06 meters (36' 3.5").
Bolce finished ninth overall in the women's 3000 meter run with a time of 10:03.37, just 28/100ths of a seconds off the school record time set by Katie Hansen in 2008. Also in the 3000 meter run, Hannah Mittelstaedt (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished in 13th place with a personal best time of 10:13.25, and Meghan Arigo (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) finished in 27th place with a time of 11:16.16.
In the men's 800 meter run, Colton Misono (Newcastle, Calif.) posted a personal-best time of 1:56.75 to finish fifth in his heat and 11th overall, while Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) finished seventh in his heat and 16th overall with a time of 1:58.95. Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) was the team's top finisher in the men's 3000 meter run, crossing the finish line in 11th place with a time of 8:36.32, followed by Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) in 16th place in 8:46.97, Baxter Arguinchona (Spokane, Wash.) in 20th place in 8:53.06, and Graham Kinzel-Grubbs (Portland, Ore.) in 22nd place in 8:58.43.
Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished 11th in the men's 2000 meter steeplechase after posting a time of 6:14.90. Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.) was the leading Redhawk in the men's 1500 meter run, finishing 11th in his heat and 24th overall with a time of 4:04.14, followed by Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) in 15th place in the heat and 29th place overall in 4:06.67 and Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) in 17th place in the heat and 31st place overall in 4:14.21.
Elena Collins (Eugene, Ore.) finished third in her heat and 10th overall in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 60.35 seconds, with Candice de Sauvage (Foster City, Calif.) finishing sixth in her heat and 13th overall in 61.21 seconds. In the women's 1500 meter run, Sophie Curatilo (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished 10th in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 4:46.97, and Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) posted a time of 4:48.18 to finish 12th in her heat and 17th overall in the event.
Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.) posted a time of 26.95 seconds in the 200 meter dash to finish seventh in her heat and 13th overall. Bergmann also joined with Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.), Cull, and Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) to finish fifth in the women's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 50.48 seconds.
In the field events, Renate Wescott (Puyallup, Wash.) finished 12th in the women's javelin with a top effort of 31.01 meters (101' 9"), while Amanda Luna (Beavercreek, Ore.) finished 11th in the women's hammer throw after a best effort of 33.65 meters (110' 5"). Tougas finished in a tie for sixth in the women's long jump with a top leap of 5.11 meters (16' 9.25").
Also, Stephen Squatrito (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished in a tie for sixth place in the men's pole vault after clearing 4.15 meters (13' 7.25"), just one inch short of the current school record set by Brock Jahner in 2007. In the men's triple jump, Mahmoud Hassanyn (Redondo Beach, Calif.) finished 13th with a best effort of 11.74 meters (38' 6.25").
The Seattle University track and field team returns to competition in two weeks, participating in the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore., Friday and Saturday, March 30-31. On those same days, certain members of the squad will head north for the Western Washington Multi-Events Meet in Bellingham, Wash.
