SEATTLE, Wash. – In the final week of preparation for the Great West Conference Championships, the Seattle University track and field team competed at the Ken Shannon Invitational hosted by the University of Washington Saturday.

Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.) tied her own school record in the 100 meter dash, finishing sixth with a time of 12.72. She also came within .17 seconds of the school record in the 200 meter dash, finishing third in 26.56.

Also in the 200 meter dash, Duncan MacKay (Renton, Wash.) finished second for the men with a personal record time of 22.12. In the 100 meter dash, he also had a personal best with a time of 11.13, earning him seventh place.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay team won the event, with Cooper Hartman (Silverdale, Wash.), Taylor Fitch (Seattle, Wash.), MacKay, and Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.) combining for a time of 42.41. In the 4x400, Jude Martinez (Hagatna, Guam), Schlachter, Hartman, and Samuel Engle (Portland, Ore.) finished third with a time of 3:32.01. Engle also finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:01.66.

In the women’s 1500 meter run, Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) grabbed second place for the Redhawks, finishing in 4:44.14. She was joined by teammates Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) with a time of 4:48.81 and Allison Prather (Carpinteria, Calif.) in 5:03.29. In the 5000 meter run, Hannah Mittelstaedt (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished sixth with a time of 19:11.96, and Lauren Hammerle (Seattle, Wash.) was a few places back from her in 19:29.32.

In men's distance events, Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) ran a season best in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.23. Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) ran the 1500 meter run in 4:02.12, and Peter VanNuland (Newcastle, Wash.) was right behind him with a personal best time of 4:03.15. Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) competed in the 5000 with a time of 15:27.59.

In field events, Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) placed second in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.13 meters (16-10). Emily Walters (Olympia, Wash.) came in sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.84 meters (35-6.75), and Bethany Richards (Shoreline, Wash.) finished seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 34.82 meters (114-3).

Josh Walters (Sacramento, Calif.) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.60 meters (136-6) and competed in the discus (28.24m). Bo Anderson (Tacoma, Wash.) finished seventh in the shot put, throwing 13.71 meters (44-11.75), and also competed in the hammer throw (36.75m) and discus (31.39m). Dylan Burnett (Lynnwood, Wash.) came in seventh in the javelin with a throw of 54.38 meters (178-5), and Brandan Haggarty (Missoula, Mont.) competed in the javelin (50.63m) and hammer throw (39.10).

In other events, the Redhawks came out with several personal records. Ashley Dalton (Bellingham, Wash.) ran the 5000 meter run in 20:16.51 and Emee Mathew (Redmond, Wash.) competed in the discus with a throw of 32.62 meters (107-0). Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) grabbed a pair of personal bests in the shot put (9.38m) and javelin (31.24m).

“The weather was the windiest we’ve had all season, which is why we didn’t have any school records,” said head coach Trisha Steidl. “While it wasn’t conducive to setting top marks, it was a good way to prepare mentally for the upcoming conference meet. Conference is 100% about competing and the team showed today that they are ready to go after it next week.

The Redhawks will wrap up the year at the GWC Championships, which begin on Thursday, May 12 and run through Saturday, May 14 in Orem, Utah.
