The sprinters on the men’s team and the distance runners on the women’s squad posted the best performances as the Seattle University track and field team competed at the Western Washington University Twilight Meet Friday evening at Civic Stadium.
The lone men’s victory came in the 4x100 meter relay, as Daniel Sullivan (Tukwila, Wash.), Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash.), Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Travis Glover (SeaTac, Wash.) combined to win the event in 42.75 seconds. In addition, each member of the relay team posted a solid individual result during the meet.
Allen finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.29 seconds, while Sullivan finished second in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.07 seconds. Both Fussell and Glover finished second in their events, but were the top collegiate finishers, Glover in the 100 meter dash in 11.12 seconds and Fussell in the 200 meter dash in 22.53 seconds.
Rachael Johnson (Yakima, Wash.) won the 800 meter dash by two seconds with a time of 2:18.81, while Jen Hamann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned an eighth place finish in 2:25.21. In the 3000 meter run, Katie Hansen (Portland, Ore.) finished second by just 15/100ths of a second with a time of 10:11.83, and Greta Stickney (Poulsbo, Wash.) finished seventh with a time of 11:00.38.
Natalie Martinez (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in sixth place in the 5000 meter run in 19:15.38, followed by Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) in ninth place in 19:24.39 and Jennifer Innes (San Bruno, Calif.) in 11th place in 19:57.29. In other women’s action, Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished fifth in the 100 meter dash in 13.13 seconds and ninth in the 200 meter dash in 27.71 seconds.
On the men’s side, Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) finished fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:23.17, and Nicholas Alvarado (San Francisco, Calif.) also earned a fourth place finish in the 1500 meter run in 4:10.46.
In the field events, Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii) finished fourth in the long jump with a top leap of 15' 5" and tied for tenth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10' 10". Udoka Odoemene (Des Moines, Wash.) finished third in the long jump with a top effort of 20' 6.5" and eighth in the triple jump with a best result of 40' 4".
The Seattle University track and field team will compete in the GNAC Championships next Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, hosted by Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.
