LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Seattle University women's rowing opened the fall racing season on Sunday in Lakewood, Wash., competing against a slew of regional opponents as part of the American Lake Fall Classic, hosted by Pacific Lutheran University.
"We had a great morning of races," said Head Coach Jenny Park. "It was so nice to get back into fall racing after two years. All of our boats raced well and we are very excited for this new year."
The Redhawks put four boats in the water on the day, competing in the Varsity 8+, JV 8+ and three lineups in the Varsity 4+. All races were 5K in distance, as is traditional in fall competition.
Seattle U earned second in the V8+, finishing in 20:00.4. The Redhawks came in just behind the University of Portland (18:35.3), while besting third-place Pacific Lutheran (21:36.9) and fourth-place Oregon (24:53.3).
A time of 21:49.7 was good for third place in the JV8+ race. Portland again took first (19:29.4), followed by Seattle Pacific in second (20:32.3). University of Pacific took fourth in 23:53.2 and PLU rounded out the field in 25:46.6.
The Redhawks raced three boats in the V4+, with the shell coxed by Hannah Twaddell placing a close second (21:12.7) to the Pilots (20:51.1). In the nine-team field, Seattle U's other two shells took seventh (23:41.6) and eighth (26:01.7).
Seattle U will compete once more this fall, racing in the Head of the Lake on Lake Washington on Nov. 7.
