Although the top male sprinters represented themselves well at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Ore., the women on the Seattle University track and field team seized the spotlight Saturday, setting three new school records at the Duane Hartman Invitational at Spokane Falls Community College.

Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Elena Collins (Eugene, Ore.) fought neck-and-neck in the 400 meter dash, with Purcell coming in slightly ahead with a school-record time of 58.81 seconds, good enough for second place overall in the event. Collins posted a time of 58.84 seconds for a third place finish, also faster than the previous school record.

Purcell and Collins would team up with Clare Obradovich (Tigard, Ore.) and Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.) to finish second in the 4x400 meter relay in exactly four minutes (4:00.00), almost two seconds faster than the previous mark set at this track just three weeks ago. Obradovich, Bergmann, Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.), and Purcell would also combine to post a time of 49.95 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay.

The third record of the day belonged to Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.), who finished second in the discus throw with a top toss of 42.21 meters (138' 6"), 14 inches further than the distance she posted twice three years apart at Central Washington. Currier also finished eighth in the shot put with a top throw of 10.11 meters (33' 2").

Brittany Philio (Renton, Wash.) would clear a height of 1.60 meters (5' 3") in the high jump, a personal best good enough for a second place finish in the event. Philio, with a top toss of 25.79 meters (84' 7") also competed in the javelin throw, the event in which both Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) and Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) set personal records, with Monahan's best throw being measured at 29.97 meters (98' 4") and Bateman posting a mark of 27.00 meters (88' 7").

Bateman also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 28.46 seconds, and in the long jump, saving her best jump for last at a distance of 4.71 meters (15' 5.5") to finish in sixth place. After finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.97 seconds, Navotni Minter (Edmond, Okla.) finished second in the long jump, also posting her best jump in her final attempt at 4.94 meters (16' 2.5").

Bergmann was Seattle U's top finisher in the 200 meter dash, finishing fourth overall in 27.07 seconds, followed by Wolf in fifth place in 27.65 seconds. Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) finished fifth in the long jump at 4.72 meters (15' 6"), while Becca Urbany (Damascus, Ore.) placed seventh in the long jump at 4.61 meters (15' 1.5") and fourth in the triple jump at 10.67 meters (35' 0.25").

In the 100 meter dash, Wolf finished fourth with a time of 13.14 seconds while Erin Moon (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed sixth in 14.01 seconds. Celeste Cassidy (Bellingham, Wash.) finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.11. In the 1500 meter run, Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) led the Redhawks with a second place finish in 4:49.07, followed by Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) in fourth place in 4:52.08 and Allison Prather (Carpinteria, Calif.) in fifth place in 5:02.07.

At the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, Daniel Sullivan (Tukwila, Wash.) finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.05 seconds. Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) finished the 100 meter dash in 11.13 seconds for a seventh place finish, while Tom Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.) finished 10th in the 400 meter dash in 49.04 seconds. Those three joined Jude Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) in the 4x400 meter relay, finishing seventh in the event with a time of 3:26.03.

Back in Spokane, Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.25, followed by Rustin Winger (Tracyton, Wash.) in tenth place in 1:58.27. In the 1500 meter run, Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) led the way for Seattle U with a seventh place finish in a time of 4:09.46, with Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) finishing eighth in 4:11.27 and Graham Miller (Spokane, Wash.) crossing the finish line in ninth place in 4:15.82.

Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) competed in the 400 meter dash, posting a time of 56.24 seconds, and in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 17.91 seconds. Michael Cardinal (Lafayette, Colo.) also competed in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing in 16.98 seconds, as well as the 400 meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:09.47. Dylan Burnett (Lynnwood, Wash.) finished ninth in the javelin throw with a top effort of 51.28 meters (168' 3").

At the Saint Martin's Invitational in Lacey, Wash., Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) finished in second place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:36.53, with Alec Adams (Woodway, Wash.) posting a time of 17:11.95 for a 10th place finish.
