The distance runners on the Seattle University track and field team posted solid performances in the first session of the Willamette Invitational Friday evening at the Charles Bowles Track.

Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) led the SeattleU contingent in the men's 5000 meter run, finishing seventh in both his heat and the overall event with a time of 14:57.52. Nick Cannata-Bowman (San Francisco, Calif.) won his heat and placed eighth overall in 14:59.56. Nicholas Alvarado (San Francisco, Calif.) finished 11th overall in the event with a time of 15:05.49.

Also running 5000 meters, Adam Kollgaard (Kent, Wash.) finished 23rd overall with a time of 15:19.51, while Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) posted a time of 15:31.84 for a 31st place overall finish. Alec Adams (Woodway, Wash.) crossed the finish line in the men's 5000 meter run in 16:40.54, and Greta Stickney (Poulsbo, Wash.) participated in the women's 5000 meter run, finishing the race in 19:27.66.

Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) finished sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:46.71, while Hans Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) crossed the finish line in 17th place in the 10,000 meter run in 31:58.81. In the women's 10,000 meter run, Rachel Yorkston (Bellingham, Wash.) finished in 10th place with a time of 39:34.53.

In the women's 1500 meter run, Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished second in her heat and 12th overall with a time of 4:49.87, while in the same heat Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) finished fourth in 4:56.16 for a 15th place finish overall. Allison Prather (Carpinteria, Calif.) finished seventh in her race with a time of 5:07.27 to place 28th overall in the event.

Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) posted a time of 4:01.52 in the men's 1500 meter run for a 13th place finish overall. Also in that event, Graham Miller (Spokane, Wash.) finished eighth in his heat and 38th overall with a time of 4:11.32, and Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) crossed the finish line fifth in his heat in 4:12.08 for an overall 40th place finish.

"This was one of the best performances ever for the Seattle University distance running squad," head coach Trisha Steidl said. "Many of the runners posted personal best times tonight, some in difficult weather conditions, and I am very happy to see the results of their hard work."

The rest of the Seattle University track and field team will see action at the Willamette Invitational Saturday, April 3, with the first field event scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. and the first running event scheduled to start at 12 noon.
