In the final home meet of her career, senior Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way for the women, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:54.62 and the 100 freestyle in 53.12 seconds, just 2/100ths of a second ahead of Simon Fraser's Addie Kolybaba. She also led off the 400 freestyle relay team that finished first, combining with Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.), Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.), and Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) to post a time of 3:37.04.
On the men's side, Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.), also competing in the home pool for the final time, finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:09.00. Chiu finished second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:12.06, just behind teammate Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.), who came from behind during the freestyle leg to win the event in 4:11.92. James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) took third place in 4:14.04 before winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.73.
Wertz was part of another close finish, getting to the wall at the finish of the 200 backstroke in 1:54.77, just 2/100ths of a second ahead of Greg Laughlin of Simon Fraser. Another individual event winner for SeattleU on the men's side was Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), who won the 50 freestyle in 20.72 seconds, finished second in the 100 freestyle in 46.30 seconds, and led off the victorious 400 freestyle relay quartet, joining with Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.), Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho), and Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) in posting a time of 3:06.03.
Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) also picked up two event wins for Seattle University, finishing first in the 400 individual medley in 4:40.65 and in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.05. Shelby Remillard (Colorado Springs, Colo.) cut about five seconds off her previous personal best in the 200 butterfly, winning that event in 2:09.56.
Pomar-Enders finished in second place in both the 1650 freestyle (18:06.77) and the 500 freestyle (5:16.15), while Henan earned a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:59.04), and Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.) was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.30 seconds. Cobb earned a second place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:45.86, Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.) was the runner-up in the 200 backstroke in 2:08.78, and Karla Ruff (Seattle, Wash.) finished in second place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.73.
For the men, Longbotham finished in second place in both the 200 freestyle (1:41.63) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.18). Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) finished in second place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.42, plus he swam the third led of the 400 medley relay, teaming with Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.), Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia), and Tibbals for a second place finish in that event with a time of 3:33.71.
The Seattle University women's swim team has one more dual meet on the schedule, heading to Reno, Nev., to face the University of Nevada next Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. The men's and women's teams will head to Long Beach, Calif., for the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships from Feb. 10-13. Besides Hanohano, Chiu, and Fulton, this was the final home meet in the collegiate careers of Kaci Dudley (Murrieta, Calif.), Ben Guthrie (Berkeley, Calif.), and Andrew Miron (Billings, Mont.).
