Running in her hometown, Katie Hansen (, ) set a new school record in the mile as the track and field team competed at the Pilot Indoor hosted by the of Friday evening at the .

Hansen finished the mile run in 5:03.1, 19 seconds faster than the previous mark she established at the UW Open on Jan. 29, 2006. Jen Hamann (, ) finished second in 5:30.7, followed closely by Sarah Bolce () in 5:32.7, Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) in 5:46.2, and Rachel Yorkston (Bellingham, Wash.) in 5:49.4.

Allison Prather (, ) finished first in the 800 meter run in 2:32.8, just ahead of teammate Nicole Waters () in 2:33.9. Mara Becker (, ) finished second in the high jump, with Toni Tetzlaff () finishing fourth. Rachel Vranizan (, ) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.8, with Alyssa Lout () finishing sixth in 1:06.2.

In the 3000 meter run, Natalie Martinez (, ) crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 11:22.3, while Jennifer Innes () earned an eighth-place finish in 11:30.1. The women finished second in the team standings with 75 points, only nine points behind Western Oregon and 13 points ahead of .

On the men’s side, Jabari Fraser () won his heat and finished second overall in the 400 meter dash in 53.6 seconds, with Jude Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) finishing in fifth place in 54.7 seconds and Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) finishing in sixth place in 58.1 seconds.

Seattle University finished 3-4-5 in the 3000 meter run, led by Nick Cannata-Bowman (San Francisco, Calif.) in 9:01.7, followed by Erik Barkhaus () in 9:02.8 and Hans Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) in 9:08.1, with Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) finishing in eighth with a time of 9:12.6.

In the 800 meter run, Rustin Winger (, ) finished third with a time of 2:00.8, followed by Graham Miller (, ) in fourth place in 2:01.9 and Dan Auld () in sixth place in 2:02.9. Adam Kollgaard () led the Redhawks in the mile run, finishing fifth with a time of 4:39.6.

In the high jump, Ty Jaros (Eugene, Ore.) finished fourth by clearing a height of 1.88 meters. Devlin Sweeney (, ) cleared 1.83 meters to finish sixth, d'Andre Benjamin (, ) cleared 1.68 meters to finish seventh, and earned an eighth place finish by clearing 1.63 meters. In the team competition, the SeattleU men finished third with 60 points.

The track and field team will compete again next weekend. A select group will participate in the Husky Classic Saturday, Feb. 14, while most of the team will be in action next Sunday, Feb. 15, at the UW Indoor Open, with both events taking place at the Dempsey Indoor facility.
