Glover, Stickney Top SU Performers at Spring Break Open

Senior Travis Glover (SeaTac, Wash.) won two events and finished second in another, while Greta Stickney (Poulsbo, Wash.) earned Seattle University’s other event victory of the day as the Redhawks competed in the Club Northwest Spring Break Open Saturday at Woolsey Stadium at King’s High School.

Glover defeated teammate Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the 200 meter dash by almost half a second, posting a time of 22.56 seconds. Glover finished second in the 100 meter dash in 11.35 seconds and also helped the Seattle University 4x400 meter relay team win that event with a time of 3:27.26.

Stickney was able to cross the finish line first in the 3000 meter run, posting a time of 11:07.97. Head coach Trisha Steidl, who helped set the pace for Stickney before finishing second in the 3000 meter run, did finish first in the women’s 5000 meter run with a time of 18:28.99, while her husband and assistant coach Uli Steidl, also running for Seattle Running Club in the open meet, won the men’s 5000 meter run in 14:33.80.

Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished second in the women’s 100 meter dash with a time of 13.52 seconds. Natalie Martinez (San Francisco, Calif.) finished third in the 1500 meter run in 5:18.01, followed by teammates Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) in 5:23.50 and Jennifer Innes (San Bruno, Calif.) in 5:26.13.

Even though they were the only competitors, the quartet of Wolf, Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.), Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.), and Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii) posted solid times in both the 4x100 meter relay (53.45 seconds) and 4x400 meter relay (4:30.32). Freshman Sara DeMartini (San Francisco, Calif.) finished third in both the shot put (9.19 meters) and the discus throw (26.01 meters).

On the men’s side, Udoka Odoemene (Des Moines, Wash.) finished second in both the long jump (6.14 meters) and the triple jump (12.36 meters) as well as a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.93 seconds). Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash.) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.43 seconds, and Nicholas Alvarado (San Francisco, Calif.) crossed the finish line in third in the 1500 meter run in 4:12.86.

The Seattle University track and field team will stick around campus during Spring Break in preparation for the UW Outdoor Preview at Husky Stadium next Friday, March 28, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
