Travis Glover (SeaTac, Wash.) set a new school record in the men’s 400 meter dash, while Rachael Johnson (Yakima, Wash.) did the same in the women’s 800 meter run as the Seattle University track and field team concluded the indoor season at the SPU Last Chance Meet held Saturday night at Dempsey Indoor Track.
Glover finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.30 seconds, while Johnson did the same in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:19.84, 1/100th of a second faster than the time she ran at the GNAC Championships on Feb. 18. No team scores was kept for this meet, as representatives from Seattle University, Seattle Pacific, Central Washington, Western Washington, Saint Martin’s, Western Oregon, and Cal State Stanislaus participated to either earn NCAA qualifying marks or improve on their personal bests before moving on to the outdoor season.
Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii) set a new personal best in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.26 meters. Other personal bests for the women include Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) in the long jump with a top jump of 4.10 meters and RaeLani Valaile (Seattle, Wash.) in the shot put with a top throw of 9.35 meters. Mara Becker (Fairbanks, Alaska) equaled her personal best in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.56 meters.
In the women’s 60 meter dash, Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) won in a time of 8.35 seconds, followed by Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) in 8.50 seconds and Erin Moon (Honolulu, Hawaii) in 8.57 seconds. Sara DeMartini (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second in the shot put with a top throw of 9.96 meters, and Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) did the same in the long jump with a top leap of 3.79 meters. Greta Stickney (Poulsbo, Wash.) also ran the 800 meter run, finishing in fourth place in 2:28.21.
Five Seattle University distance runners participated in the women’s mile, with Tiffany Hunter (Longview, Wash.) leading the way with a time of 5:44.30. Julia Miller (Normandy Park, Wash.) was next in 5:45.12, followed by newcomer Jen Hamann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), coming off three seasons on the Seattle University soccer team, in 5:45.23. Natalie Martinez (San Francisco, Calif.) ran the race in 5:45.47, and Haley McGoldrick (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished the event in 5:51.06.
Jude Anthony Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) won the head-to-head battle with teammate Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash,), in the 60 meter dash, with Martinez finishing in 7.19 seconds and Allen close behind in 7.28 seconds. Adam Kollgaard (Kent, Wash.) ran a personal best of 2:09.22 in the 800 meter run, while Alec Adams (Woodway, Wash.) finished the mile in 4:51.11.
Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) finished the 400 meter dash in 56.41 seconds, and Udoka Odoemene (Des Moines, Wash.) finished second in the long jump with a top leap of 5.87 meters. In the men’s pole vault, Marc Massey cleared a height of 3.50 meters, while d'Andre Benjamin (Mililani, Hawaii) cleared the bar at 3.20 meters.
The Seattle University track and field team now moves to the outdoor season, beginning next Saturday with the Peyton Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash., starting at 11 a.m.
