SEATTLE – Seattle U cross country opens its 2022 regular season Friday, September 2 at the Portland State Rust Buster at Westmoreland Park. The men's 6k will go off at 2:00 pm and women's 5k will start at 2:30.

The teams that the Redhawks will compete against are Clark College, Multnomah, Pacific (Ore.), University of Portland, and Portland State University.

"We will be taking a solid group to the event to get the 2022 season started," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "Some of the racers will be competing collegiately for the first time in cross country and some will be returning that missed an entire year of competition. Overall, the team is very excited to get the year going."

During the past offseason, the women's team kept most of their depth while adding two talented new freshmen in Caitlyn O'Neil and Jordan White. Both freshmen are coming off impressive high school careers. O'Neil is a four-time qualifier WIAA State Cross Country Championship while White is a four-time OSAA State Cross Country Championship qualifier.

In addition, the men's team also made three new additions to their roster with freshmen Khalid Hirsi and Parker Wagnild, as well as graduate transfer Hezekiah Goodwin. Hirsi and Wagnild both join the Redhawks after successful senior year campaigns. Hirsi placed 14th at the 2022 WIAA Cross Country State Championship, while Wagnild placed 12th at the HHSAA State Cross Country Championship. Goodwin joins as a graduate transfer from Pacific Lutheran University. Goodwin won the 2022 NWC the 3000m Steeplechase and 800m at the NWC Track and Field Championships and will look to continue his success in his last year of eligibility with the Redhawks.

The entries for Friday's race are as follows:
