SEATTLE - Seattle U cross country hosted the Western Athletic Conference Championships on a partly cloudy Saturday morning at Jefferson Park Golf Course. Sophomore Emily Harris was the standout performer for the Redhawks, placing 13th overall to earn All-WAC Second Team honors.

"We are just thankful we were able to pull this off for the whole conference," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "All the thanks in the world goes out to Jefferson Golf Course as they allowed us to host this event during the winter. I also want to thank Rebekah Ray, Amy Lagerstrom, the rest of our administration staff and medical team for their time and effort as this was a wonderful event and I couldn't be happier with how it was set up."

Harris' 13th place finish in the 6k event came in a time of 22:11.40. Fellow sophomore Marie-Therese Chahrouri finished about two minutes off Harris's pace with a time off 24:05.70.

"I couldn't be prouder of Emily's performance today," said Sullivan. "A year ago, Emily wasn't even in our travel team and today we got the chance to watch her be named to the all-conference team. We started to see a lot of potential with her last year and it was great to see some of that potential come out today."

Leading the way for the men was senior Kyle Kennedy who finished in 35th place with a time of 26:35.40. Freshman Jay Grant followed up Kennedy with a time of 26:44.4 and rounding out the Redhawk's top three was junior Lance Slichko, coming in with a time of 27:00.50. Only a second later, junior Stephen Crocker crossed the finish line with a time of 27:01.40, while freshman Lance Mason rounds out Seattle U's top five with a time of 27:18.20. Crossing the finish line at the same time were freshman Alex Jensen and junior Ansel Pendley-Griffin with a time of 27:40.1. Freshman Jack Crowell and junior Devin Hasty concluded the Redhawks participation in this race, finishing with respective times of 28:36.50 and 29:54.40.

"We aren't satisfied with where we finished today but under the circumstances we took this as a chance to let some of our younger racers compete," said Sullivan. "I thought Kyle had a fantastic day today considering he missed all of summer due to injury and had only been back running for about two months. Jay hasn't competed in a competitive race in over two-and-a-half years and this was actually the first 8k cross country race he and Lance Mason have ever been a part of."
