RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Seattle U cross country battled with the best in the conference on Saturday morning at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships. The men's 8k and women's 6k was held at the UC Riverside Agricultural Operations course in Riverside, California. The women's team set eight new personal bests to go along with a sixth-place finish (192 points), while the men's team finished in 12th (319 points).
"I was really pleased with how the women handled themselves today," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "Having a 31 second split between the group always helps the team to do well."
Leading the way for Seattle U was sophomore Emily Harris, finishing with a time of 22:03.6, while redshirt sophomore Rowan Cuadrado finished about 10 seconds behind her and Abby Smith rounds out SU's top three with a time of 22:25.0 in the 6k race. Cuadrado, originally recruited as a high jumper, has made the transition to cross country and distance running over the last year and put herself as one of SU's top three runners.
On the men's side, freshman Giuliano Scasso lead them once again, while redshirt sophomore Alex Franklin crossed the finish line at 26:05.1 and redshirt junior Ansel Pendley-Griffin concludes Seattle U's top three with a time of 26:11.1 in the 8k race.
"Although this isn't the result we had hoped for, we understand how we can improve," said Sullivan. "We look forward to preparing for our next race."
