SILVER LAKE, Wash. – Facing off against Pacific Northwest rivals Gonzaga, Portland and Pacific Lutheran, the Seattle University women's rowing team returned to competition for the first time in three weeks for a pair of races on Silver Lake Sunday morning. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 10, but was shifted one day due to high winds.
The Redhawks raced a pair of 8's, taking third in the second varsity 8+ and fourth in the varsity 8+. The 2V8+ completed the 2,000m course in 7:40.15 behind host Gonzaga (7:05.80) and Portland (7:31.97). The varsity 8+ race saw a spread of just over two seconds between the second, third and fourth place finishes as Portland took second in 7:09.27, Pacific Lutheran was third in 7:09.98 and Seattle U was fourth in 7:11.04.
"After a challenging with with unexpected changes, I felt the team competed well," said Head Coach Jenny Park. "We have made improvements over the last couple of weeks and this competition allowed us to see what we need to continue to fine tune before we see Portland again next weekend."
The Redhawks have competitions slated for the next three straight weekends, beginning Saturday, April 17 with a dual at Portland on Vancouver Lake. They will return to Seattle for a dual with Seattle Pacific on April 24, then cap things off at the Windermere Cup on May 1.
