EUGENE, Ore. — Powered by a season-high 11 hits and a couple of big offense innings, Seattle U baseball downed Oregon in the series, 8-4, on Sunday at PK Park.
Tied 4-4, Gavin Rork and Connor O'Brien reached to lead of the seventh before Julian Kodama was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Another pitch then Austin Lively during the next at-bat and pushed Rork across for the go-head run. Matt Boissioneault then sent the 1-2 pitch to deep left were is rattled in the corner allowing three runs to come in as he registered his first career triple to make it 8-4.
From there, Oregon was unable to rally as it left two on the pond in the seventh and one in the ninth, while being retired in order during the eighth.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Kyle Sherick and Dylan Gerard tallied back-to-back one-out singles. Rork then slapped a double down the left field line, allowing Sherick to scored while Gerard advanced to third. Soon after O'Brien assumed first on a hit by pitch to load the bases. Justin Mazzone then hit a long single to right plating Gerard and Rork, giving the Redhawks a 3-1 lead. O'Brien then added to the cause as he scored with a RBI from Kodama.
The Ducks then responded in the sixth as they reached on a two-out error. Oregon then used the long-ball to pull within one. The Ducks then tied the game on a bases loaded walk as Redhawks relievers conceded back-to-back singles and drawing a walk to fill the base path.
On the mound, Morgan White tossed a 5 2/3-inning gem as the starter allowed two unearned runs on one hit, while striking out six. Desmond Parisotto was credited with the win as he held Oregon scoreless over 2 1/3 innings while giving up two hits. Lucas Ford pitched a scoreless ninth, while Jarrod Billig and Brady Liddle also made relief appearances.
"I'm very proud of the how the guys responded after Oregon tied the game in the sixth," said head coach Donny Harrel. "They could have folded due to what happened on Thursday night, but instead they dug their feet in and kept fighting."
Next the Redhawks are slated to face another PAC-12 opponent as welcome Washington State to Bannerwood Park for three-games beginning March. 5.
