Redhawks post fastest time in 13 of 14 events to earn second dual meet victory in as many days

For the second straight meet, the Seattle University men’s swim team received solid performances from several swimmers, defeating Whitworth University, 150-92, Saturday afternoon at the Connolly Center Pool.

The three seniors on the Redhawk squad earned victories in the final home meet of their collegiate careers. Bart Wanot (Federal Way, Wash.) picked up two wins, finishing first in the 100 backstroke in 51.38 seconds and in the 200 backstroke in 1:51.92. Kyle Moline (Mercer Island, Wash.) touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.23, and John Fulmer (Kent, Wash.) won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.73 seconds.

Tanner Schelling (Boise, Idaho) earned the best time in two events, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.91 before finishing first in the 500 freestyle in 4:52.71. Jack Baldoni (Applegate, Calif.) was also the fastest swimmer in two individual events, winning the 50 freestyle in 21.86 seconds before posting a time of 50.74 seconds in the 100 butterfly.

Nick Connors (Richland, Wash.) finished first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:40.97, and Connor Webb (Hood River, Ore.) touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.14. Gabe Wheeler (Round Rock, Texas) earned the victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.52.

The Redhawks also excelled in the relays, starting with the quartet of Lee Van Farowe (Edmonds, Wash.), Wheeler, Baldoni, and Fulmer winning the 400 medley relay in 3:31.97. Wanot, Schelling, Moline, and Baldoni combined for a time of 3:10.06 in the 400 freestyle relay, the fastest mark in the event by over eight seconds.

“The guys raced well today despite coming off a tough week of training,” Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said. “What I was most pleased about was the way they supported each other throughout the afternoon. It was a great Senior Day meet, and I am excited to see what they can do going forward.”

Seattle University (2-5) heads to Colorado Springs, Colo., next weekend for back-to-back meets against Air Force Friday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Pacific time) and Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. Mountain time.
