At CSU Bakersfield Oct. 20, Wheeler finished the 100 yard breast in 1:03.54 and ranked sixth ... took seventh in 50 yard Freestyle with time of 23.45 ... finished fifth in 200 yard Breast, swimming in 2:16.91.
High School: Wheeler swam varsity for four years at Round Rock High school. He qualified for regional all four years for the Dragons, and swam at the state championships sophomore year. He was named to the All-State 200 Freestyle Relay team sophomore year and All-State 400 Freestyle Relay team senior year. He was also named the team's Most Spirited Swimmer in 2010-11 and Most Valuable Swimmer in 2011-12. Wheeler also played water polo for Round Rock, helping the team qualify for regionals and being named an All-Region player. Away from the pool, Wheeler was named to the Academic Honor Roll, President of Mu Alpha Theta, and a National Honor Society Member.
Club Experience: Wheeler swam for the Lone Star Aquatic Club for five years. He was named the club's Most Improved Swimmer in 2010-11, Most Valuable Swimmer in 2011-12, and he was awarded the Team Leadership Award in 2011-12 as well.
Personal: Full name Gabriel Andrew Wheeler. Parents are Melissa and Keith Wheeler, and he has two older siblings named Darcy and Wesley who are both collegiate swimmers. Wheeler is an environmental science major and loves visiting national parks and hiking.
