The Seattle University men’s swim team battled with both Grand Canyon and Arizona State, but the Redhawks lost to both the Antelopes, 133-71, and the Sun Devils, 118-84, Friday evening at the Connolly Center Pool.
Nick Connors (Richland, Wash.) finished second overall in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:02.16, while Bart Wanot (Federal Way, Wash.) also finished second overall in the 100 backstroke in 51.25 seconds. Kyle Moline (Mercer Island, Wash.) picked up a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 4:47.13, and then he joined with Lee Van Farowe (Edmonds, Wash.), John Fulmer (Kent, Wash.), and Alec Barnard (Everett, Wash.) to finish third in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:16.38.
Tanner Schelling (Boise, Idaho) picked up a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 21.17 seconds before finishing fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.79 seconds. Jack Baldoni (Applegate, Calif.) swam well in the first collegiate meet of his career, joining with Wanot, Gabe Wheeler (Round Rock, Texas), and Schelling to finish third in the 400 medley relay in 3:28.04, and then Baldoni finished third in the 100 butterfly in 51.08 seconds.
Grand Canyon won six events during the evening, while Arizona State picked up five event victories in the meet. Iegor Lytvenok set a new Connolly Center Pool record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:55.06, while Illya Glazunov did the same in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 45.53 seconds.
Seattle University (0-2) will face Grand Canyon and Arizona State once again at the Connolly Center Pool Saturday, Oct. 25, starting at 11 a.m.
