“Our team battled like crazy against one of the best teams in the WAC,” said head coach Mark Frisby. “It came down to the doubles win for Idaho and the three-setter at No. 1 singles. But it was a hard-fought match.”
Seattle U started doubles play with a win in the No. 2 spot by Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) and Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.), 8-4, but the Vandals answered back with two straight doubles wins to earn the first point.
Topp would tie the match, 1-1, with a win at No. 2 singles in straight sets and the match would be tied again at two after Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) earned a straight sets victory at No. 6 singles. Riley Newman (Whidbey Island, Wash.) took the lead for the Redhawks in the No. 5 spot with a win, 7-5, 6-2, but Idaho would finish with a pair of singles victories to win, 4-3. The final singles match came down to a tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.
Seattle U hosts Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday, Apr. 8 in their final home match, which will serve as Senior Day. The match is set to take place at 4 p.m. at the Seattle U Tennis Courts.
