Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) won two events and Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) also earned an event victory as Seattle University concluded its participation in the Willamette Invitational Saturday at the Charles Bowles Track.
Stanfield won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.74 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 21.75 seconds. He also anchored the 4x100 meter relay team, joining with Samuel Engle (Portland, Ore.), Austin Thummel-Gravitt (Puyallup, Wash.), and Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.) to finish third in 42.73 seconds. The same four competitors made up the Redhawks' 4x400 meter relay squad, winning its heat and finishing sixth overall in the event with a time of 3:23.33.
Tougas won the long jump with an outdoor personal-best effort of 5.35 meters (17' 6.75") accomplished on her first pass of the event. She also won her heat and finished tied for ninth overall in the 200 meter dash with a personal-best time of 26.26 seconds, faster than teammates Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.), who posted a time of 26.76 seconds, and Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.), who earned a mark of 26.78 seconds.
Both Lout and Bergmann also competed in the 100 meter dash, with Lout finishing fourth in her heat with a time of 12.78 seconds and Bergmann crossing the finish line third in her heat with a personal-best time of 13.22 seconds. Valerie Wu (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) also competed in the women's 100 meter dash, finishing with a time of 13.43 seconds, as well as the long jump, posting a best leap of 4.78 meters (15' 8.25").
Schlachter finished third in his heat of the men's 200 meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.59 seconds. In the men's 400 meter dash, Thummel-Gravitt finished fourth both in his heat and overall in the event with a time of 50.68 seconds, while Engle posted a time of 53.05 seconds in the event. On the women's side, Elena Collins (Eugene, Ore.) ran the race in 59.94 seconds.
In the women's triple jump, Cali Cull (Marysville, Wash.) finished third after she earned a top mark of 10.82 meters (35' 6"). On the men's side, Nick Bever (Seattle, Wash.) finished eighth as he saved his best jump for his last, finishing with a mark of 12.38 meters (40' 7.5"). Also in the field events, both Renate Wescott (Puyallup, Wash.) and Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) earned personal best marks in the javelin throw, with Wescott throwing the javelin 32.94 meters (108' 1") and Bateman earning a top throw of 32.46 meters (106' 6").
With the majority of the distance events taking place Friday night, those distance runners who competed Saturday were involved in the 800 meter run. For the women, Sophie Curatilo (Honolulu, Hawaii) had the fastest time among the Redhawks, finishing fourth in her section with a time of 2:21.23. Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished third in her section of the event with a personal-best time of 2:22.79, and Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) also earned a personal best with a mark of 2:25.14.
In the men's 800 meter run, Colton Misono (Newcastle, Calif.) had the fastest time among the Seattle U competitors with a time of 1:57.62. In the third heat of the event, Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) crossed the finish line in 1:58.14, just ahead of Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) in 1:58.15. Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) earned a personal best time of 1:59.67, Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.) posted a time of 1:59.99, and Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) finished the race in 2:02.70.
Seattle University heads to Spokane, Wash., next weekend for the WAR meet, pitting competitors representing Washington schools against those representing schools from Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. next Saturday, April 7.
