The majority of the Seattle University track and field team saw action Saturday as the UW Invitational reached its conclusion at Dempsey Indoor.

After coming close to reaching the finals of the 60 meter dash with a preliminary time of 7.07 seconds, Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) finished second in his heat and 12th overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.36 seconds. He then joined with Cooper Hartman (Silverdale, Wash.), Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.), and Duncan MacKay (Renton, Wash.) to finish sixth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:25.01.

Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) saw more success at a familiar track, winning her heat and finishing 37th overall in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 59.52 seconds. On the men's side, Schlachter posted a time of 51.17 seconds to finish 35th overall in the men's 400 meter dash.

Freshman Emily Walters (Olympia, Wash.) showed her versatility, first finishing 35th in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles with a school-record time of 9.49 seconds. She moved on to field events, clearing a height of 1.53 meters (5'0.25") to finish in a tie for 23rd in the high jump and posting a top effort of 10.66 meters (34'11.75") to finish 21st in the triple jump.

In the men's 800 meter run, Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) earned a 34th place finish with a time of 1:58.45, while Keenan Clinch (Sammamish, Wash.) finished in 39th place with a time of 2:02.87. In the men's one mile run, Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) crossed the finish line with a time of 4:24.91 to place 41st, and Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) finished in 44th place with a time of 4:30.46. Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished 49th in the women's one mile run with a time of 5:15.10, just ahead of Cara Talty's (Raritan, N.J.) time of 5:16.07 that put her in 52nd place.

Ty Jaros (Eugene, Ore.) put together a solid performance in the long jump, finishing in 16th place with a top jump of 6.45 meters (21'2"), while Nick Bever (Seattle, Wash.) placed 25th in the same event with a top leap of 5.67 meters (18'7.25"). In the men's weight throw, Brandan Haggarty (Missoula, Mont.) finished in ninth place with a top throw of 12.10 meters (39'8.5").

After struggling in the women's weight throw, Seattle U's three female throwers made a better accounting of themselves on the women's shot put. Sara Blakely (Spokane, Wash.) finished in 24th place with a throw of 10.73 meters (35'2.5"), Bethany Richards (Shoreline, Wash.) finished in 26th place with a toss of 10.24 meters (33'7.25"), and Emee Mathew (Redmond, Wash.) found herself in 27th place after a throw of 10.06 meters (33'0.25").

"We had some good performances this weekend with some personal records and some almost-PRs. Overall, however, the team didn't perform to the level they are capable. We will take the next couple of weeks to evaluate and work hard so we are ready to compete and show what we're truly capable of," head coach Trisha Steidl said.

The Seattle University track and field team heads to Portland, Ore., for the Pilot Indoor next Sunday, Feb. 6.
