Senior Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) nearly pulled off a victory in the 200 freestyle, finishing just 28/100ths of a second behind Oregon State's Lisa Chewning with a time of 1:56.94. She came even closer in the 100 freestyle, closing a deficit of 41/100ths of a second after the first 50 yards against Arianna Gorenc, but coming 9/100ths of a second short at the end with a time of 53.31 seconds.
After finishing third in the 100 butterfly in 59.51 seconds, Hanohano helped her 400 freestyle relay teammates Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.), Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.), and Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) post a second-place finish in the final event of the day with a time of 3:40.08. Cobb also finished third in both the 200 freestyle (1:59.67) and the 500 freestyle (5:15.28).
Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) finished in second place in both the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:45.41 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.86. Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) came in second place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.53, and Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.) finished in third place in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.51.
The Seattle University men's and women's swim teams will compete for the final time this season at the Connolly Center Pool, as traditional rival Simon Fraser comes to town for a dual meet Saturday, Jan. 23, beginning at 1 p.m. Five seniors will participate in their final home meet tomorrow: Hanohano and Kaci Dudley (Murrieta, Calif.) for the women and male swimmers Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.), Ben Guthrie (Berkeley, Calif.), and Andrew Miron (Billings, Mont.).
