The Seattle University track team capped off their first Division I season at the Ken Shannon Invitational Friday evening at the University of Washington.

The Seattle University track and field teams concluded their 2008-09 season at the Ken Shannon and Ken Foreman Invitational held at the University of Washington Friday evening.

For the men, Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) and Jim Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.) placed fourth and sixth respectively in the 100 with times of 10.94 and 11.07. In the 200, Mezzera placed fifth in his section with a 22.76 as Stanfield was third in his section with a 22.77.

The distance events saw Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) turn in the top time for the Redhawks in the 800 with a 1:59.91. He was followed by teammates Graham Miller (Spokane, Wash.) with a 2:00.69, Daniel Sullivan (Tukwilla, Wash.), 2:02.22, and Tom Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.), 2:07.15. Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) led the way in the 1500 with a 3:57.19, followed by C. Auld, 4:14.01, Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.), 4:14.58, Rustin Winger (Tracyton, Wash.), 4:14.60, and Miller, 4:19.54. And in the 5000, Hans Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) posted a 15:21.60 as Adam Kollgaard (Kent, Wash.) finished with a 15:23.52, and Alec Adams (Woodway, Wash.) finished with a 15:37.

Devlin Sweeney (Olympia, Wash.) posted a 15.94 in the 110 hurdles, followed by Sullivan, 16.66, and Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.), 17.18. In the 400 hurdles, Jude Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) turned in a time of 59.29, followed by Jabari Fraser (Bethesda, Md.), 1:01.75, and Poshusta, 1:01.78. Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) finished sixth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:44.11.

The 4x100 team of T. Mezzera, J. Mezzera, Stanfield, and Sullivan placed third with a 42.23, just ahead of Poshusta, Udoka Odoemene (Des Moines, Wash.), Fraser, and Ty Jaros (Eugene, Ore.), 45.57. In the 4x400, T. Mezzera, Stanfield, Fraser, and C. Auld posted a 3:36.69, while Sullivan, J. Mezzera, Winger, and Miller clocked a 3:39.39.

In the field events, Jaros and Sweeney tied for fourth place in the high jump with both clearing 1.85 meters. Odoemene placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 6.41, while Jaros took fifth in the triple jump with a best of 13.43.

On the women’s side, Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.) finished third in her 100 meter heat with a time of 12.77. Lout was also the top SU finisher in the 200 meter, placing sixth in her section with a 26.72 followed by teammate Clare Obradovich (Tigard, Ore.) with a 26.74. Also competing in the event was Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) with a time of 27.19, and Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) with a 27.39.

That same quartet finished fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.5. They were just ahead of Becca Urbany (Damascus, Ore.), Toni Tetzlaff (Mendota Heights, Minn.), Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii), and Rachel Vranizan (Portland, Ore.) who turned in a 52.52.

Vranizan and Urbany also competed in the 100 hurdles, turning in times of 16.76 and 17.62 respectively. Vranizan also recorded a 1:08.34 in the 400 hurdles. The 4x400 team of Cabebe, Allison Prather (Carpinteria, Calif.), Nicole Waters (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Jen Hamann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed second with a 4:25. 01.

In the distance events, Hamann won her section of the 800 with a 2:18.14, while Waters finished with a 2:31.09. Rhiannon Cadelinia (San Francisco, Calif.) posted a time of 4:57.64 in the 1500 as Prather finished with a 5:02.75. In the 5000 it was Natalie Martinez (San Francisco, Calif.) placing sixth with a 18.50.93 as Jennifer Innes (San Bruno, Calif.) finished in 20:11.71.

In the field events, Urbany placed 11th in the long jump with a best of 4.75 meters, and sixth in the triple jump with a 10.70. In the shot put, Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.) received second for her toss of 10.69, while Sara DeMartini (San Francisco, Calif.) placed sixth with a toss of 9.43. Currier also took fifth in the discus (40.94) and ninth in the javelin (26.35). Also in the javelin, Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) placed eighth with a throw of 27.89 meters.

The Seattle University track team concluded the sports season for 2008-09 at Seattle University. They will return to the track next fall for the beginning of the indoor season.
