SEATTLE — The Seattle U cross country team is hitting its stride.
Following a banner day at the Charles Bowles Invite on Oct. 4, the Redhawks will look to keep their momentum rolling in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University on Saturday, Oct. 18. The men’s team will race in the 8k at 8:45 a.m., while the women’s team will begin their 6k race at 9:30 a.m.
The men will race the 8k for the third time this season, with a chance to once again shatter PR’s that were set at the Charles Bowles Invite. At that meet, freshman standout Roman Radecki ran a 24:57 to vault into the Seattle U history books with the 12th best 8k time in Redhawk history. Another personal best in California would give Radecki the opportunity to break into the top-10 of Seattle U’s all-time running pantheon.
Radecki isn’t the only one making history. Redhawk legend Azalea Groleau is already Seattle U’s all-time 6k leader with a 20:28 time recorded at the 2024 WAC Championships. Groleau will race the 6k for the second time this season, after an individual ninth place finish with a 21:39 time at the Cougar Classic on Sept. 12. The Bronco Invitational could be ripe for another personal best. In last year’s event, Groleau broke her own 6k school record – which she again broke later in the 2024 season. The women finished fifth as a team in last year’s event in a field of 19 teams.
PR’s were also recorded last meet by Seku Sanders (25:26), Dan Barreto (25:36), Casey Miller (26:52), Eli Perez (27:08) on the men’s side. In the women’s 5k, Groleau set a PR (17:23) along with Diana Camargo Solis (18:13), Annabelle Clapp (18:29), Mira Danish (18:37), Lydia Dale (18:42), and Peyton Basilio (19:37).
The Redhawks hope to take another leap forward at this year’s Bronco Invitational, which is their last meet until their first conference championship race as a member of the West Coast Conference. The WCC Championship will be held on Sat., Nov. 1, in Spokane, Wash.
