SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks will take part in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational to finish the regular season, playing 54 holes across two days, April 7 and 8. After that, the Redhawks start the postseason at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins April 25.
11 teams will compete at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. Along with Seattle U and host UC Santa Barbara will be Denver, Utah State, Cal Poly, San Francisco, Incarnate Word, UC Riverside, Utah Valley, Utah Tech, and Boise State.
The Redhawks are fresh off the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational, where they finished fifth out of 18 teams. Kevin Li finished fourth at that tournament with a 54-hole score of -4 under par. That was impressive enough to earn Li his second WAC Golfer of the Week award of his career. Both of those awards have come in the last month after back-to-back competitions for Seattle U. Li is one of five Redhawks to earn multiple WAC Golfer of the Week awards under Marc Chandonnet's tenure as head coach. He joined Nathan Cogswell, Jack Rahon, Joe Harvie, and Patrick Sato in that regard.
The Redhawks have finished in the top five in four consecutive competitions, with that streak only broken up by a sixth-place finish at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic in October. At least one Redhawk has finished in the top ten in five consecutive competitions as well. Li (fourth, second), Conrad Chisman (eighth), Ben Ragland (seventh), and Liam Gill (fifth) have all recorded top-ten finishes in that time.
The UC Santa Barbara Invitational will be the third trip to California for the Redhawks this year. They also competed at the UC San Diego Invitational, where they finished fifth among 20 teams, and the Leadership & Golf Invitational, where they finished ninth of 14. The Redhawks last competed at UC Santa Barbara's tournament in 2012, when it was known as the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate.
Seattle U and UC Santa Barbara have competed at two of the same competitions this year: the Leadership & Golf Invitational and the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational. The Redhawks have finished ahead of UC Santa Barbara at each of those competitions.
