AZUSA, Calif. & PORTLAND, Ore. – The Seattle University Redhawks' two-meet week went swimmingly, with eight new top-ten times and brand new all-time school records in the 800m and triple jump. Alex Jensen broke Seku Sanders' previous school record, with both Jensen and Sanders recording times that bested any previous in SU history. Matthew Fiso broke the triple jump record by almost half a meter with a 14.21m, becoming the first Redhawk ever to break the 14m mark in the event. He would do so twice, with a triple jump of 14.21m before a 14.28m in his final attempt.
The Redhawks set five new all-time top-ten times at the Bryan Clay Invitational, including four in the 800m alone. Jensen, Sanders, Osaze Williams, and Annabelle Clapp all moved up in the record books in the 800m, while McKenna White had a new top-ten time in the 1500m.
Jensen ran a 1:50.63 in the 800m, the first time a Redhawk has recorded a time under 1:51.00 in that event. Sanders, who had set the school record earlier this year, ran a 1:50.78, good enough to break his old record but just behind Jensen's time.
Osaze Williams also improved on his personal best with a 1:51.60. That shaved 0.16 seconds off his previous personal best in the 800m and put him third all-time. Annabelle Clapp moved from ninth in SU history to fourth with her 2:12.92, putting her behind only Liane Swegle, Maya McCabe, and Siobhan Rubio.
In the 1500m, it was McKenna White who moved up the all-time standings. Her time of 4:33.36 moved her from ninth in SU history to fifth, just 0.21 seconds behind Moira O'Connor Lenth.
the Lewis & Clark Invitational, the Redhawks would set four new all-time top-ten times as well as 15 personal bests. That included Fiso's school-record triple jump. His 14.28m performance was over a full foot better than the previous school record, set by Nick Redlew in 2017.
Zachary Schriner started off the other record book entries at the Lewis & Clark Invitational. Schriner had a javelin throw of 47.55m. That kept him sixth all-time in the SU top ten but improved upon his own personal best by 0.98m.
In the long jump, JR Zamora improved on his personal best by .12m to 6.70m and is now just .30m behind Jamaari Jefferson's school-record 7.00m long jump. Matthew Fiso moved from tenth to ninth with a 6.38m jump, passing Xavier Kelley.
Manthita Wague did not set any personal bests but won the long jump with a meet-best 5.41m jump. She would finish second in the triple jump with a 11.58m. Taylor Marks also won an event, the 400m, by .64 seconds, with a time of 58.05.
The 1500m saw Lydia Dale (4:57.27), Jeremy Posdon (3:58.33), Porter Buck (4:04.50), and Dan Barreto (4:08.27) all set personal collegiate bests. Kaylyn Huynh (13.38), Isabella Bass (13.44), and Zamora (11.11) all set personal bests in the 100m. Huynh (27.48) and Bass (27.78) also each set personal bests in the 200m. In the 800m, Kristina Shkalenkova (2:19.24) and Alexzander Osorio (1:58.54) set personal bests.
The Redhawks return to Oregon next. Seattle U will take part in the Oregon State High Performance Meet, running May 2 and 3 in Salem, Oregon.
