HOUSTON - Seattle U men's and women's swimming concluded a record filled performance at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship on Saturday. In all, the Redhawks set 12 new program records and had 47 new entries in the program's top 10 list. The 4-day event was highlighted by Danielis Kvederis taking gold in the 200 Yard Backstroke.
"I am so proud of what this team accomplished this year," said head coach Joe Dykstra. "We challenged them to really elevate the program this season and led by an incredible group of seniors we did just that."
For Kvederis, he became the first WAC individual champion in men's program history with a 1:43.53 finish in the 200 Backstroke. He also made the podium in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 46.88 in an NCAA-B cut. In total he was a part of six total school records during the event and finished as the 11th highest scoring male swimmer in the field. His performance also gives him NCAA considerations.
"12 new school records, at least 47 new entries on our all time top ten list, and the first WAC individual event champion in men's team history made this a really special week," Dykstra added. "I am so grateful to our coaches and am bursting with enthusiasm for what can come next."
Another huge result was the women's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Amanda Miller, Aubrey Cheng, Mia David, and Sammy Mosier who broke the school record that has been standing since 2017. They finished with a time of 3:25.60, beating the old record by more than a full second.
