SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Junior Azalea Groleau closed out the regular season of racing for Seattle University in style with a school-record finish of 20:44.4 in the women's 6k at the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara.
Groleau's time lowers the Seattle U women's 6k mark by nearly three seconds as she bested her own program record of 20:47, set during the 2023 season. While the Redhawks have not competed in the Bronco Invite since 2019, this also marks the second straight appearance in the meet where the team has set a program record time. In 2019, Olivia Stein raced to a finish of 20:58, breaking the previous program record that had stood for five years.
Groleau's finish was good for seventh overall in the field of nearly 200 competitors and 19 teams. The finish helped the Seattle U women to finish fifth place in the team standings, besting the likes of current Western Athletic Conference and future West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, Utah Tech, Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon.
"There were a handful of personal bests set today including Azalea lowering her own school record," said Head Coach Jordana LeSavage. "I'm very proud of this group and their growth since their last competition five weeks ago. We are in a great spot heading into the postseason."
The Redhawk women also got strong performances from Lilianne Hargreaves, who finished 19th overall in a personal best time of 21:07.0, Diana Camargo Solis (33rd, 21:23.3), Alisha Saucedo (58th, 21:56.5) and McKenna White (76th, 22:07.9).
In the men's 8k, senior Lance Mason was the Redhawks' top finisher, taking 50th in 25:26.5. Freshman Jeremy Posdon was 64th in a time of 25:41.7.
