ESTACADA, Ore. - Seattle U men's and women's cross country toed the line in their final regular season race of 2022 at the Lewis and Clark Invitational in Estacada, Oregon. Both teams came away with personal bests and top individual finishes from the day.
On the women's side, Azalea Groleau was the Redhawks top finisher for the race. Groleau finished the 6k race in 22:08.4 to place eight overall out of a massive 262 athlete field. The stellar effort from Groleau now puts her 20th overall in the 6k in school history. Lilianne Hargreaves was the next finisher for the women. Hargreaves ran a personal best in the 6k, finishing the race in 22:48.6. Caitlyn O'Neil and Grace Much were also able to come away with top-50 finishes, with O'Neil placing 37th in 23:01.6 and Much finishing 50th with a time of 23:17.4.
The women's team finished sixth out of 24 teams, scoring 188 points and defeating teams such as Portland State and Portland. Additionally, the women's team was without top runners Emily Harris and McKenna White for the race.
The men's team also had impressive performances from the day. Alex Franklin led the charge, running a new personal best in the 8k of 24:52 to place 15th overall out of a 345 athlete race, which is the ninth fastest 8k in school history. Hezekiah Goodwin was in close pursuit of Franklin, and also came away with a top-20 finish. Goodwin ran a personal best 24:58 and place 19th overall. This is the first time Goodwin has broken 25 minutes in the 8k, and now has the tenth fastest 8k PR in school history. Lance Mason also set a new personal best in the race by running a time of 25:55 to finish 63rd overall. The men's team finished ninth overall out of 30 teams, scoring 215 points collectively.
The next time the Redhawks will toe the start line will be in the post season, as they will compete at the WAC Championships in Nacogdoches, Texas on October 29.
