SEATTLE – Seattle U men's golf has announced its 2022-23 regular season schedule, featuring five fall and six spring tournaments. The men's final tournament is for the all-important Western Athletic Conference Championships, which will take place from April 28-30 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev.
"I am very thankful for all my fellow coaches and friends in providing our team with these opportunities," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "We are overdue for a special year and look forward to being challenged at these events."
The Redhawks open the season at the new Olympic Club Invitational, hosted by San Francisco, in San Francisco, Calif., from September 12-13 before returning to three tournaments they competed in last season. The UW Husky Invitational is first, from September 19-20 in Bremerton, Wash., where graduate student Jack Rahon took fourth overall last season, marking one of his two WAC Golfer of the Week awards.
The Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State, follows from Sept. 26-27 in Fresno, Calif., where the Redhawks will make their sixth straight appearance before heading to the OSU Beaver Invitational on Oct. 11-12 in Beaverton, Ore. Graduate student Nathan Cogswell finished fourth overall at the OSU Beaver Invitational last season, earning one of his three WAC Golfer of the Week awards. The fall season comes to a conclusion with the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, N. Mex., from Oct. 17-18.
The spring schedule begins with the Redhawks making their first appearance at the Arizona intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., from Jan. 30-31, followed by some match play action with the Wyoming World Match Play Championships in Palm Desert, Calif., on Feb. 10-11. They'll have about a month off until action picks up again in March with the Bandon Dunes Championships (12-14) and the UCSD Invitational (27-28) in Bandon, Ore., and La Jolla, Calif., respectively.
The ninth annual Redhawk Invitational kicks of April with play set for the 3-4 at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. The regular season comes to an end at the UC Davis El Macero Classic in Davis, Calif., on Apr. 14-16.
This year's squad introduces one transfer, John Morrow, along with freshman Jakob Balkovec, Burly Hildreth and Ben Ragland. The Redhawks return 2021-22 All-WAC Champion and First Team member Nathan Cogswell along with All-WAC Second Team member Jack Rahon. The rest of the team is complied of sophomore Liam Gill and junior Blake Kukula. Seattle U added a new assistant coach in former Redhawk star, Joe Harvie, providing coach Chandonnet and company with added top level playing experience.
"This season will be a great opportunity for our graduate seniors, Nathan and Jack, to compete in PGA Tour University and demonstrate their leadership both on and off the course," said Chandonnet. "The additional support our new assistant coach Joe will be able to provide us in preparation and on the course makes us even more confident going into this year."
