SEATTLE – The Seattle U Redhawks took four event titles and had four top-ten times in Seattle U history on the first day of a three-day meet against Simon Fraser Friday. Cole Lanting led the way with a first-place finish in the 200 IM as well as taking part in the 200 Free Relay-winning team for the Redhawks.
Lanting swam a 1:51.55 to win the 200 IM, a new season high for the Redhawks as Lanting bested his prevous team-high time by .01 seconds. He would work his way into Seattle U's all-time top ten with that performance: his time of 1:51.68 in the prelims was the eighth-fastest in the 200 IM in Seattle U history, only to best that in the finals, finishing just behind Ben Nussbaum's time of 1:51.41 in 2018.
Lanting, along with Tyler Goodspeed, Noa Copp, and Nicholas Imig, would also win the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:24.27.
Imig had an individual event title as well, swimming a 21.00 in the 50 Free to win the event. Imig's time was the fastest by any Redhawk in the 50 Free this year.
Sammy Mosier also won the 50 Free on the women's side. Mosier had a time of 24.02, the best time of the season for the Redhawks by .31 seconds, to win the event. Mosier's time was also the sixth-fastest by a Redhawk in the 50 Free ever, just ahead of Rachael Rodriguez's 24.06 from 2015.
Michaela Day, Maggie Robben, Andres Banuelos, and Will Corona all had second-place finishes for the Redhawks as well today. Day took second in the 500 Free (5:10.10), Robben in the 200 IM (2:06.96), Banuelos in the 500 Free (4:38.34), and Corona in the 200 IM (1:53.69).
Robben's time in the 200 IM was a career best and put her sixth in Seattle U history, just .41 seconds behind Annika Perry's fifth-place time of 2:06.55 from 2017.
The Redhawks also had a top-ten 200 Medley Relay time ever for the women, swimming a 1:47.29. That time is the tenth-fastest 200 Medley Relay time in Redhawks history. Lydia Genson, Danika Himes, Mosier, and Plamondon accomplished that today.
