SEATTLE – Seattle U cross country opens its 2021 regular season Friday morning with a dual matchup against Washington at Magnuson Park. The men's four-mile race starts at 10 a.m., while the women's three-mile race begins at 10:45.
Washington's men's and women's squads are both ranked nationally by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Association (USTFCCCA) at 13 and 10, respectively.
"It has been great to have more of a traditional start to the cross-country season since we missed out on this last year," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "For UW and ourselves, we use this as an early season rust buster to determine where everyone stands at this moment. We are looking forward to competing once again."
This past offseason, the women's team has added three talented freshman in Azalea Groleau, Lilianne Hargreaves and McKenna White. Groleau was a consistent performer at San Lorenzo Valley High School, competing in three Central Coast Section CIF meets, while Hargreaves joins after winning the 2019 Cross Country State 4A Championship and team's most valuable cross-country runner. White rounds out this group with a strong resume that includes two First Team All-Conference honors and one Second Team All-Conference honors.
The men's team also made three additions to their roster for the upcoming season in Logan Miller, James Parker and Giuliano Scasso. Miller joins after being a three-time All-League honoree at Rogers High School, while Scasso recently finished second at the 2021 Rose City Cross Country Invitational Championship which was held as an Oregon HS All-Star meet. Parker, the lone transfer, joins Seattle U from Portland where he competed in nine meets over three years and retains two more years of eligibility.
