NAMPA, IDAHO – Seattle U track and field first day at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, sending six athletes to the finals in their respective events and winning the bronze medal in the women's distance medley relay. The team of freshman Grace Much, sophomore Regie Grady, freshman Delaney Griffin and sophomore Marie-Therese Chahrouri, competing as a group for the first time, finished the race in 12:19.11 to make the podium.
 
Senior Michelle Newblom smashed her own school record in the 60m hurdles for the third time this year, placing first in her heat with a time of 7.74 and qualifying for Saturday's finals at third overall. In the 800m run, senior Siobhan Rubio posted a time of 2:15.90, first in her heat and second overall, to qualify for the finals along with freshman Maya McCabe and her seventh-place 800m time of 2:17.75. Sophomore Nicole Golba set personal records in two events: the 60m hurdles and the triple jump. Classmates Courtney Gelmini and Megan Delorey posted new PRs of their own in the 5k run, while sophomore Tayla Weaver did the same in the 60m dash. In the 400m dash, Grady was first in her heat to cross the finish line with a time of 58.56.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Lucas Milne competed in the men's heptathlon, the first Redhawk to do so in modern history. He started off the day with a 60m time of 7.51, a personal best that was good for 710 points. Next, he posted a personal-best long jump of 6.29m for 650 points, then followed that up with a PR of 10.32m (505 points) in the shot put. Finally, he closed out the first day's events with a high jump of 1.73m – another personal record that earned him 569 points, adding up to an eighth-place Day One total of 2434 points.
 
Sophomore Zach Gonzalez set his own personal record in the 400m dash, finishing second in his heat (and fifth overall) at 49.31 to qualify for the finals on Saturday. Classmate Ansel Pendley-Griffin had a solid race in the mile run, finishing third in his heat at 4:20.61 to qualify for the next day's finals at sixth place overall, while junior Nathan Pixler qualified for the finals in the 800m run with an overall third-place time of 1:54.55. Freshman Xavier Kelley set a new personal best in the triple jump, and the distance medley relay team of freshman Gus Harquail, senior Jarod De Guzman, freshman Ryan O'Connor and sophomore Lance Slichko took fifth place to score for the Redhawks.
 
Day Two's events will begin on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 8:00 a.m. PT. Tomorrow's Redhawk competitors are as follows:
