The Seattle University men’s swim team took two events, but Air Force was able to earn the other event victories as the Falcons defeated the Redhawks, 129-74, Friday night in a dual meet at the Cadet Natatorium.
Kyle Moline (Mercer Island, Wash.) broke through with a victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.29, over three-and-a-half seconds faster than his nearest competitor. Bart Wanot (Federal Way, Wash.) earned the other event win for the Redhawks, touching the wall first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.23, just 8/100ths of a second ahead of the second place finisher.
Gabe Wheeler (Round Rock, Texas) finished in second place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.74. Wanot, Wheeler, Jack Baldoni (Applegate, Calif.), and Tanner Schelling (Boise, Idaho) finished third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:26.99.
Nick Connors (Richland, Wash.) finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:19.83 and posted the fourth-fastest time in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:00.00. Wanot earned a third place finish in the 50 freestyle in 21.61 seconds.
“Kyle and Bart led us tonight with their victories, and there were some other good swims in this meet,” Seattle U head swim coach Craig Nisgor said. “We have another chance at these guys tomorrow, and I am looking for a more complete effort, as I think we faltered a little bit in the second half of tonight’s meet.”
Seattle University (2-6) will face Air Force again at the same venue in another dual meet Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. Pacific time).
