“We had a great pitcher’s duel in game one,” said head coach Dan Powers. “Alyssa shut them down but we weren’t able to get the bats going. Sydney is a tough pitcher and she held down a good offense this morning. I tip my cap to her. These are the type of games we need to prepare for WAC play.”
Seattle U faces LMU on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. and finishes the tournament vs. UC Riverside on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 11:30 a.m.
Game 1: LMU 1, Seattle U 0
The Redhawks were able to strand two LMU runners on base in the first inning, but the Lions were able to break through in the third as Nicole Clowdus scored on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Harman with two outs.
Seattle U’s best chance to score was in the top of the fourth as Bubba Morrow (Auburn, Wash.) advanced to third after reaching base on a fielder’s choice. The Redhawks would leave Morrow and Lisa Maulden (Maple Valley, Wash.) on base to end the inning. Overall, SU left six runners on base over the entire game.
In the circle, Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) allowed a single run on three hits while walking two and striking out six. Sydney Gouveia pitched the no-hitter for LMU, walking three and striking out ten.
Game 2: UC Riverside 4, Seattle U 2
UC Riverside struck early, scoring one run apiece in the first and second innings. Dionne Anderson scored an unearned run in the first then drove in Stephanie Tickemyer in the second as they took the 2-0 lead. They added two more runs in the bottom of the third as Ashley Ercolano hit a 2RBI home run to center field, driving in Karina Romero.
Morrow hit a 2 RBI home run to left field, bringing in Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) in the fourth, but two quick outs ended the inning and the Redhawks’ further scoring chances. The Redhawks left one runner on base in the seventh, but could not get closer as they fell, 4-2.
In the circle, Mandie Sugita (Rossmoor, Calif.) gave up all four runs, walking two and striking out three in four and one third innings pitched. Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) entered in relief, facing five batters in one and two thirds innings pitched. Alyssa Razo earned the win for UC Riverside, allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
