Los Alamitos High School: Sugita was three year varsity starter for the Griffins. She started out as a pitcher and a short stop, but focused on pitching from her sophomore year onward. She helped the team take second at the 2010 Tournament of Champions, fourth in the 2009 Tournament of Champions, and make the CIF playoffs both years. She was named Rookie of the Year in 2009 and was MVP of the Foothill Roundtable Tournament. She was named JV Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, and was also given the Scholar Athlete Award. During the 2010 Tournament of Champions final, she allowed tallied 18 strikeouts while just allowing one hit in 12 innings. Sugita was on the Junior Honor Guard, Honor Roll for four years, and a member of Christian Club for four years. She was voted junior prom princess and senior homecoming princess as well.
Club Experience: Sugita played for So Cal Athletics 18 Gold for two years, Mizuno pride 14U for two years, and also spent two years at Synergy 14U. She helped the Athletics win the national championship in 2010 and take fourth place at ASA Nationals the year before. In 2007 she took the So Cal Synergy to a Co-Championship of the Triple Crown tournament and in 2006 helped them take 13th at ASA Nationals. Sugita was also an invited attendee at the 2009 National Elite Future Athletes camp, 2008 and 2009 Adidas Top 100 Athletes camp, and the 2008 Futures on Deck camp.
Personal: Full name is Amanda Kai Sugita, but she goes by Mandie. Her parents are Debby and John Brosius, and she has three older siblings named Tina, Tyler and Korey, plus a younger one named Jacque. She is majoring in digital design. Sugita enjoys painting, riding horses, and getting her nails done. She helped her dad build a 1972 Nova from the ground up, and she also umpired for three years at a local recreational league.
