“Richelle pitched great today,” said Powers. “We hit the ball hard all day and had quality at bats throughout the lineup.”
In the first, Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) put the Redhawks ahead, batted in on a single to center field by Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.). Jenny Hurst (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) opened the fourth inning on a solo home run to center field as SU led, 2-0, through four.
Guerrero scored her own run in the fifth as Lisa Maulden (Maple Valley, Wash.) drove her in and Kayla Shuster-Gonzales (Escondido, Calif.) hit a solo home run of her own to give Seattle U a 4-0 lead.
Alyssa Smith and Lani Ernst would score back-to-back runs in the sixth to narrow Toledo’s deficit, 4-2, but it would be as close as they would come.
The Redhawks outhit the Rockets, 10-4, as Guerrero, Maulden, Hurst, and Shuster-Gonzales led the Redhawks with two hits apiece.
In the circle, Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) allowed just two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out seven in the complete game win. For Toledo, Emily Anderson struck out four, allowing all four runs in the seven inning outing.
Seattle U returns to action at the Amy S. Harrison Classic hosted by UC Riverside, with their first game versus LMU on Friday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m.
