The Seattle University men’s tennis team fell victim to the Utah State Aggies, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
The lone Redhawk point came from freshman Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.), as he earned his 10th singles victory of the 2012-13 season with a straight set win over Fredrik Peterson in the number two singles position. The first set went to a tiebreaker, with Kosanke finally prevailing, 15-13, before closing out the match with a second-set victory (7-6, 6-3).
In the number one singles position, Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) split the first two sets with Sven Poslusny before the Aggie took the third set and the match (6-1, 5-7, 6-2). Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) went to a tiebreaker in both sets of his match in the number six singles spot, but Utah State’s Tanner Dance was able to win the key points for a 7-6, 7-6 victory.
Utah State (6-11, 1-2 WAC) swept the doubles sets to start the match before winning five of six singles matches for its first conference win of the season.
Seattle University (1-19, 0-4 WAC) will remain in Logan for a neutral-site match against New Mexico State Friday, April 12, starting at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Pacific time).
