After a four matches in three days, the Seattle University men’s tennis team concluded its annual spring break trip to Las Vegas, Nev., with a 6-1 loss to Eastern Washington Tuesday with at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.

Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) claimed the Redhawks’ sole win on the day, taking down Eastern Washington’s Eduardo Bringold in two well-contested sets. The first set was particularly close, as Bediones outlasted Bringold in a tiebreak to win 7-6(7-4), and Bediones followed with a 6-4 win in the second set to take the match, his third singles victory of the trip.

At No. 4 singles, Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) played another tightly-contest match, losing to Kyle Koetje in three sets. Rapp won the first set via a tiebreak 6-7(7-4), but fell to Koetje in the second 6-2. During the super tiebreak in lieu of a true third set, Koetje strung together more points at the end than Rapp could, wining 10-8.

In the second singles position, Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.) wrapped up a two-win trip with a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Eduardo Martinez, while Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas), fell 6-2, 6-4 to Tomas Aranguiz at No. 3 singles. At the top of the lineup, Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) lost to Joseph Cohen, and Gus Orlando (Sacramento, Calif.), playing in just his second collegiate dual singles match, fell to Stefan Farrar at No. 6 singles.

The Redhawks were competitive in the doubles competition, but lost all three matches in it. At No. 3 doubles, Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) and Clare pushed EWU’s duo of Aranguiz and Koetje into a tiebreak, but the Eagles’ pair won the tiebreak and the match 9-8(7-2). At No. 1 doubles, Lynch and Kosanke teamed up with each other for the third time this season. They took six games from the Eastern Washington pair of Cohen and Martinez, but lost 8-6.

In the second doubles match, Rapp and Bediones fell 8-4 to Eastern Washington’s Bringold and Aaron Lince.

Seattle University (1-15) will next see action Thursday, April 4, when the squad takes on Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. That match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Pacific.
