The Seattle University men's swimming team defeated North Dakota, 126-111, while dropping dual competitions to host Air Force (183-54) and Wyoming (194-43) Friday evening at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Natatorium.

The night got off to a good start when the quartet of Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.), Chris Lynch (Mukilteo, Wash.), Bart Wanot (Federal Way, Wash.), and Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished second overall in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:26.37. The meet was capped by the 200 freestyle relay, in which the Seattle U squad of Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), Longbotham, Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.), and Douglas Pizac (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished fifth overall with a time of 1:26.76.

The best individual finish came from James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.), who finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.72. Gilmore also finished seventh overall in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.21. Wanot finished fifth in the 50 freestyle in 21.51 seconds and eighth overall in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.53 seconds.

Other performances that allowed the Redhawks to stay ahead of North Dakota included Andy Cunningham's (Cameron Park, Calif.) sixth place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:10.59), Morrell's seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:46.13), Kyle Moline's (Mercer Island, Wash.) seventh place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:01.55), and Longbotham's sixth place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:54.01).

Seattle University (4-4) will face the same three teams in another meet Saturday, Jan. 19, starting at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. Pacific time).
