Several members of the Seattle University men's swim team enjoyed being the top man in individual events as the Redhawks cruised past the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 121-76, Friday evening at the Connolly Center pool.

The quartet of Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.), Chris Lynch (Mukilteo, Wash.), Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.), and Bart Wanot (Federal Way, Wash.) started off the meet with a six-second victory in the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:34.45. Morrell finished second in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.51 and posted the fastest time in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:45.70.

Lynch earned the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:08.32, while Longbotham won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.19 and anchored the fastest 200 freestyle relay, joining with Wanot, Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), and Owen Bley-Male (Portland, Ore.) for a time of 1:25.68. Wanot dominated the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.63, almost 13 full seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

Nick Connors (Richland, Wash.) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:03.74, while Carriker touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle in 21.43 seconds. Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) finished first in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.16, Kyle Moline (Mercer Island, Wash.) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.69, and Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.) finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.46 seconds.

The Redhawks finished with at least the two fastest times in every event until the 200 freestyle relay. In seven of the 11 events, Seattle U swimmers earned the three best times of the event. The Redhawks earned their second dual meet victory of the season.

Seattle University will welcome Whitworth University to the Connolly Center for a dual meet involving both the men's and women's teams Saturday, Jan. 12, starting at 1 p.m. At 12:45 p.m., the seniors within the Redhawk swimming program will be recognized for their contributions to the team.
