The Seattle University men's tennis team continued play at the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiates Saturday, advancing two individuals to bracket quarterfinals of the tournament held at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas) advanced to the quarterfinal of the Northwest Consolation bracket over Oregon's Michael Schaeffer after Schaeffer withdrew due to illness. In his quarterfinal match, Clare faced Eastern Washington's Kyle Koetje but lost in a third set tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(12-10). Also in the quarterfinal of the Northwest bracket, Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) was eliminated after he withdrew due to injury from a match against Idaho's Matt Oddonnetto.
Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) fell in the first round of the Northwest Consolation bracket to Portland's Jackson Martin 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10-7), and Gus Orlando (Sacramento, Calif.) fell 6-4, 6-1 to Portland State's Zach Lubek to wrap up Redhawk involvement in the draw.
In the Pacific consolation bracket, Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) lost a three-set match to Portland State's Alex Marx, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(10-8). Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) also went forced a third-set tiebreaker, but also lost in the end 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(10-4) to Hayden Smith of American College, and Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) lost 6-4, 6-3 to Jose Bendeck of Idaho.
In the Pacific doubles bracket, the Redhawks' duo of Topp and Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.) fell to the second-ranked team from Washington of Egger and Manthou, 8-4.
The PNW Intercollegiates wrap up Sunday, November 4th at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle. Play resumes at 9:00 a.m., however no Seattle U players are scheduled to take place in any official tournament matches being held Sunday.
