Bethany Richards (Shoreline, Wash.) became the third Seattle University track and field athlete to set a new school record during the weekend, breaking her own mark in the hammer throw during Saturday's session of the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field.
Richards finished 13th in the event with a top effort of 40.31 meters (132' 3"), a full foot farther than her previous school record mark. She also finished in fifth place in the shot put with a best throw of 10.84 meters (35' 6.75").
Stephen Squatrito (Phoenix, Ariz.) tied his outdoor track and field school record in the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters (14' 5.25") to finish in ninth place in the event. Elsewhere in the field events, Cali Cull (Marysville, Wash.) finished in fifth place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.01 meters (36' 1.5"), Nick Bever (Seattle, Wash.) finished in ninth place in the long jump with a best effort of 6.04 meters (19' 9.75"), and Josh Walters (Sacramento, Calif.) came in 10th place in the men's hammer throw with a top toss of 43.19 meters (141' 8").
On the track, Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) finished in second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.78 seconds. He also anchored both Seattle U relays, first joining with Austin Thummel-Gravitt (Puyallup, Wash.), Eric Patterson-Floyd (Seattle, Wash.), and Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.) in the 4x100 meter relay for a third place finish in 42.38 seconds. Thummel-Gravitt, Schlachter, and Stanfield were joined by Colton Misono (Newcastle, Calif.) in the 4x400 meter relay, with the team finishing in fourth place with a time of 3:20.14.
In the men's 400 meter dash, Thummel-Gravitt finished in fifth place overall with a season-best time of 49.21 seconds, while Schlachter finished in 11th place with a time of 50.83 seconds. Misono ran in the men's 800 meter run, finishing 15th overall with a time of 1:58.44, followed by teammate Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) in 16th place in 1:59.08.
On the women's side, Elena Collins (Eugene, Ore.) finished in sixth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 60.17 seconds, with Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.) right behind her in seventh place in 60.86 seconds. In the 100 meter dash, Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) finished 11th overall with a time of 12.70 seconds, with Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.) in 12th place in 12.98 seconds.
Lout, Cull, Tougas, and Bergmann finished in sixth place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 50.63 seconds. Candice de Sauvage (Foster City, Calif.), Collins, Evadine Codd (Spokane, Wash.), and Bergmann teamed up for a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:02.66.
The Seattle University track and field team will head to Spokane, Wash., next weekend for the Duane Hartman Invitational, beginning Friday, April 27, at 6 p.m. and continuing Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m.
