Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) won the women's long jump, Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) broke his own school record in the 200 meter dash, and Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) added another school record to his collection, highlighting Seattle University's first session at the Oregon Relays Friday evening at Hayward Field.

In second place heading into the final jump, Tougas saved the best for last, leaping 5.56 meters (18' 3") to move into the lead and post a personal best by almost 2/10ths of a meter. Also in the event, Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) finished in fifth place with a top effort of 4.76 meters (15' 7.5").

Stanfield finished fourth in his heat and overall in the 200 meter dash after posting a time of 21.56 seconds, 2/100ths of a second faster than his previous mark set at the 2010 Great West Conference Championships. Stanfield is scheduled to compete in the 100 meter dash Saturday as well as in both the 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay.

Barkhaus finished seventh in the top section of the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 14:40.88, a full five seconds faster than the previous mark. This is the fourth school record Barkhaus has set since the start of the indoor track and field season, including the 10,000 meter run record established three weeks ago at the Willamette Invitational.

Several outdoor personal bests were attained in the 5000 meter runs. In the top section of the women's 5000 meter run, Hannah Mittelstaedt (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished 15th with a time of 18:07.75. In the B-section of the men's 5000 meter event, Matthew McClement (Bellingham, Wash.) crossed the finish line third with a time of 15:05.52, with Graham Kinzel-Grubbs (Portland, Ore.) finishing in 13th place in 15:29.22 and Baxter Arguinchona (Spokane, Wash.) also posting a personal best with a time of 15:31.87, good enough for 14th place.

Elsewhere in the 5000 meter run, Meghan Arigo (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) crossed the finish line in the women's 5000 meter run in 19:30.26. Also in the men's B-section of the 5000 meter run, Jeff Baklund (Auburn, Wash.) finished in 16th place in 15:46.63.

Sophie Curatilo (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted a outdoor track personal best time of 4:43.95 in the B-section of the women's 1500 meter run, finishing in fourth place in that race. In the top section, Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished 19th overall in 4:39.43 and Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) finished 21st overall with a time of 4:45.74.

On the men's side, Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished 26th in the top section of the 1500 meter run after posting a time of 4:00.63. In the B-section, Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) finished in 15th place with a time of 4:03.81, followed by Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.) in 17th place in 4:05.73.

In the other field event with a Seattle U participant Friday night, Renate Wescott (Puyallup, Wash.) finished 12th in the javelin throw with a top effort of 34.04 meters (111' 8").

"Today's weather was a lot warmer than what we have experienced so far this year," Seattle U head coach Trisha Steidl said. "It's good practice for what's to come at the conference meet in Houston and also helps us realize what we need to do to prepare."

The Oregon Relays continue Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m.
