On the second day of competition at the MPSF Championships at the Belmont Plaza, Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) and Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) both set new MPSF meet records, among multiple other school records set by Redhawk swimmers.

Anderson won the 50 freestyle with a MPSF record of 20.12, breaking his own record from the preliminaries earlier in the day. Longbotham set both a Seattle U school record and MPSF record by winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:32.16, surpassing the MPSF record of 4:33.35 and Seattle U’s of 4:33.33.

Also in the 50 freestyle were Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.), who finished seventh in 20.85, and Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho) in eighth with a time of 20.90. In the 500 free behind Longbotham was Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.) in third with a time of 4:33.77, Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.) in fifth in 4:38.67, Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) in 11th with a time of 4:40.47, and Ali Abadi (Edmonds, Wash.) in 12th in 4:48.42.

The men also scored in the 200 IM with a fourth-place finish by Joe Wertz (Richlane, Wash.) in 1:50.46, followed by James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) in eighth in 1:52.09, Erin Warren (Seattle, Wash.) in ninth in 1:52.90, and Douglas Pizac (Salt Lake City, Utah) in 12th in 1:55.98. The 400 medley relay team of Andrews, Warren, Longbotham, and Anderson finished second in 3:19.78.

On the women’s side, Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) obliterated Seattle U’s school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:48.21, beating the old record of 5:06.47. Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) also broke the school record, finishing the preliminaries in 5:06.10 and the finals in 5:06.78.

Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) finished 12th in the 200 IM in 2:05.80, and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) swam the 50 freestyle in 24.42.

Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.), Morehouse, Briley Boggs (Federal Way, Wash.), and Henan set the final school record of the day with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 3:50.06.

After two days of competition, the men are sitting in second-place with 168 points behind CS Bakersfield with 194 and ahead of Pacific with 163. The women are in ninth place with 71 points and are led by UC Davis with 294.

MPSF Championship competition will continue on Friday, Feb. 25, beginning at 10:30 am.
